Thousands of protesters in Manizales gathered on the 4th day of demonstrations against the privatization of hospitals and the increase in taxes on basic goods and services in Colombia. Protesters knocked down the status of conservative fascist politician Gilberto Alzate Avendaño, before being attacked and tear-gassed by police, thinning out the crowd and starting clashes across the city.
Anarchists in Seattle protested in solidarity with the general strike in Colombia, which was sparked in response to police violence and threats of privatization coupled with tax hikes. Demonstrators called for the end of state violence towards the movement and the immediate halt of arms sales to Colombia.
Protesters in Portland were first dispersed by the police after an unlawful assembly was declared, with a few protesters arrested and the demonstrators pushed down the road. A man was later seen pointing a gun at a member of the press, then exiting his car to yell ‘All Lives Matter!’ at the crowd. No one was harmed during the altercation.
Dozens of protesters in the Villa Francia area of Santiago took to the streets on the Day of the Youth Combatant, in which 2 young activist brothers were murdered by the Pinochet dictatorship. Demonstrators placed barricades and clashed with law enforcement, throwing Molotov cocktails at water cannons and other militarized vehicles.
Hundreds of socialists & anarchists gathered in the Catalan city of Reus to protest against a rally organized by the far-right Vox party, with several confrontations occurring and riot police arriving on the scene. Although counterprotesters were physically blocked from chasing down the fascists, they were successfully forced to disperse.
