Ware State Prison Insurgency

The Ware State Prison Insurgency was a prison riot that occurred on the 1st of August, 2020, due to several human rights problems boiling over to create huge amounts of prisoner anger. According to local residents and It’s Going Down, prisoners had not been fed for days, there had not been any running water for a week, and medical care for those who had the coronavirus was terrible. Prisoners were fed up with what was happening inside, and stabbed two guards, kept one in their custody, and demanded better treatment as well as a bare recognition of their human rights.

3 prisoners were shot with live ammunition by police, two in the arm, and one in the thigh. The Human and Civil Rights Coalition of Georgia has noted several possible causes for the insurgency, including most stated above. The Georgian government has claimed that there is no clear reason for the prisoner uprising in the county, although human rights watchdogs state that there have been multiple abuses committed.
