Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Housing Committees headquarters in Santiago to demand that the government buy land to create affordable housing for the homeless of St. Bernardo, a neighborhood of the city, joining in on the demonstrations across the country on the 25th.
Protesters rioted all across West Philadelphia after the police shooting of a mentally ill man earlier in the day, with over 30 police officers injured and 91 demonstrators arrested. Many areas in the city experienced heavy-handed clashes between protesters and riot police, with cars driving through crowds in some areas. Several police cruisers were captured and burnt.
Around 300 protesters in Thessaloniki marched to demand the repeal of a law passed by the Ministry of Education in February which enabled police to re-enter universities after their presence was banned with the fall of the military dictatorship in 1974 after a student uprising at the Athens Polytechnic.
Demonstrations across Indonesia continue to rock the country as Parliament refuses to revoke the Omnibus Law, a much-criticized bill that passes neoliberal reforms including deregulation and cutting workers’ rights. Over 800 arrests were made up to the 11th of October, although protests continue across the country.
