Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Housing Committees headquarters in Santiago to demand that the government buy land to create affordable housing for the homeless of St. Bernardo, a neighborhood of the city, joining in on the demonstrations across the country on the 25th.
Thousands of protesters in Bucaramanga took to the streets for a 6th consecutive day as part of a general strike in Colombia, demanding the immediate withdrawal of healthcare privatization and opposition to police violence. After police attacked the massive crowd, intense clashes occurred in the city center.
Dozens in Thessaloniki gathered to oppose the Greek government’s ban on protests, stating that the science shows that demonstrations do not cause an increase in coronavirus cases and simply exacerbate the extent of police repression.
Protests in Belarus have carried on for months on end, but without the resignation of Lukashenko, widely suspected of rigging the elections. Many black blocs have been seen throughout the country, although they are still centered in Minsk. Many anarchist groups in the country criticize its protesters for peacefully protesting, which is seen as being ineffective provided Lukashenko’s lack of concessions.
A few dozen Chileans gathered at Plaza Dignidad in Santiago for the New Year, protesting against Piñera and for amnesty for all political prisoners. Demonstrators waving the Mapuche flag were immediately attacked by Carabineros, who used water cannons against a tiny demonstration of about 25-30 people.
