Chilean National Police Crack Down on Protests in Santiago

Carabineros cracked down on protesters in Santiago, attacking independent journalists and arresting a minor for carrying a Mapuche flag while the demonstration had not even yet begun. Barricades were placed at the University of Chile, as protesters continued to arrive on the scene to continue the national mobilization against Piñera.

Many protesters were injured by pepper spray and water cannons deployed by police, with several showing clear chemical burns that needed to be treated by street medics.
