A united coalition of health workers in Valparaiso went on strike against the Piñera administration, demanding more funds for COVID containment, a better salary, and the release of political prisoners. Over 500 people were in attendance for the strike, marching through the center of the city.
Hundreds of protesters in Sudan took to the streets for a 3rd consecutive day in opposition to the removal of government subsidies for fuel and petrol, which raised the consumer price by more than 200%. Demonstrators blocked roads, burnt tires, and placed barricades in order to pressure the government to concede.
Around 100 protesters in Patras marched in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, an imprisoned former member of the 17 November leftist urban guerilla, who entered a hunger strike on the 8th of January to demand his return to the Korydallos prison where he will be able to see his family once again.
Dozens of protesters in Antofagasta took to the streets on the anniversary of the formation of the Carabineros, the national police organization of Chile. Demonstrators called for the agency’s immediate dissolution, burning barricades and clashing with Carabineros who arrived to suppress the protest.
Hundreds of marchers and cyclists in Santiago protested at various points of the capital city in solidarity with political prisoners of the uprising in Chile, demanding an immediate general pardon for all convictions made against anarchists with relation to the uprising.
