A united coalition of health workers in Valparaiso went on strike against the Piñera administration, demanding more funds for COVID containment, a better salary, and the release of political prisoners. Over 500 people were in attendance for the strike, marching through the center of the city.
More than 15 ports went on strike across Chile against the presidency of Sebastian Piñera, alongside many workers in Antofagasta among other regions. The already-striking Barros Luco hospital staged a solidarity protest, marching to the Presidential Palace, with many other medical workers taking to the streets as well.
Demonstrators in Paris, Marseille, Nancy, Lyon, Toulouse, and many other cities took to the streets as part of a sustained movement against the Global Security Bill that bans videos and photos taken of police ‘with the intent of doing harm to the officer in question’. Police in Paris assaulted protesters at the Trocadéro, deploying water cannons and arresting at least a dozen.
Thousands of protesters in Bristol clashed with police during a Kill the Bill demonstration in opposition to the restriction of the right to protest and the increase of police powers in Great Britain. Several police vehicles were torched, the police station’s windows were smashed, and fireworks were shot at the scene.
Around 150-200 students gathered in front of the Propylaea in Athens to protest against a law passed by the Ministry of Education which would enable police to enter universities for the first time in 1975. The demonstration was forced to disperse, however, after police blocked anyone from entering the road.
