Tacoma Protesters Occupy Abandoned School Against Anti-Homeless Policies

Homeless protesters in Tacoma occupied the Gault Middle School demanding more housing options for the unhoused. 2 houseless people have died in the city last week, and one of them was due to the shelter being closed that day. A homeless camp in Tacoma is also under constant threat of eviction, leaving protesters with ‘no other choice’ but to occupy the school.

Tacoma police moved in with hazmat suits, due to the fact that the school was heavily contaminated with asbestos and mold. They first threatened the protesters with a felony arrest for burglary if they did not leave, but gave up and left without arresting anyone.
