Riots Continue Across Peru Against Presidential Impeachment

Demonstrations continue to rock Lima and other cities across Peru following the impeachment of the president by Parliament. Thousands took to the streets in the capital and clashed with police, engaging far more than the previous day. Barricades were set up, and water cannons were used unsuccessfully to put down the protests.

The citizens of Peru call for the end of the interim presidency of Merino de Lama, the speaker of Parliament who was inaugurated at noon today. He has expressly rejected the protests, stating that accusations of corruption against former president Martín Vizcarra have been valid.
