Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of the Santiago neighborhood of Puente Alto, burning barricades and blocking roads on International Women’s Day against government incompetence in stopping femicides as well as to demand access to safe and free abortions in Chile.

Intense clashes occurred with police, who were repulsed from the area several times by angry crowds while trying to disperse the protesters, who finally left after nightfall arrived.
