Dozens of protesters took to the streets of Elizabeth City for a 7th consecutive day, demanding justice for Andrew Brown, an unarmed Black man killed by police while driving away. Despite a heavy police presence, demonstrators remained peaceful, even following the deployment of several dozen heavily armed police officers.
About 150 protesters gathered in front of the ICE facility in Portland to demand the abolition of the agency created in 2002, whose dismantling would legally be within Biden’s direct jurisdiction. DHS & Portland Police attacked the demonstration, using incredibly toxic amounts of the possibly carcinogenic HC tear gas, and making targeted arrests of medics and press.
Protesters demonstrated for a second night after the police-involved killing of Karon Hylton outside of a DC precinct, with Hylton’s family attending and being tear-gassed and pepper-sprayed by police. Protesters began to employ fireworks as a means of deterring police, with over 10 injuries from firework strikes over the night.
