Antifascist counterprotesters arrived to counter a MAGA caravan scheduled to go through New York City, which ended up fleeing upstate. The NYPD assaulted protesters, and arrested a journalist as well as 17 demonstrators. Up to 30 out of the 300 protesters were injured, although the protest achieved its original goal of diverting the rally.

Dozens of protesters gathered at Syntagma Square in Athens for the release of Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of the left-wing revolutionary group 17 November serving a life sentence; Koufontinas entered a hunger strike to demand his transfer to his old cell in the Korydallos prison in Athens, where he would again be able to see visitors and be able to receive medical care.
About 50 abolitionists gathered at the minimum-security federal prison for men in Laval, Quebec, setting off fireworks, banging on pots and pans, and yelling chants in solidarity with those inside during the New Years’ noise demo. Prisoners at the jail have been kept in isolation from months, with limited to no access to the gym or library and no visits from family.
Defend Europe organized a protest in Grenoble to ban or extremely limit immigration, with Lyon Antifa responding by holding a counterprotest of over 1,000 people that successfully pushed them out of the city. Some clashes occurred, but most was only between Defend Europe and Antifa.
