Dozens of protesters in Olympia gathered at the Thurston county jail, giving a noise and light demo to those caged inside the prison by the state. Police were unable to settle the fast-moving group, and no arrests ultimately occurred.
Tens of thousands of women took to the streets of Santiago on International Women’s Day, protesting against government incompetence in curbing a rise in femicides as well as to demand safe and free abortions in Chile. Police attacked the demonstrators with tear gas and water cannons, who fought back with barricades and rocks.
Dozens of protesters gathered at the Alameda in front of the Presidential Palace in Santiago, demanding the release of all political prisoners of the 18th of October Uprising. As the Senate voted on a law deciding whether or not young political prisoners should be released, families of those jailed held up photos of detainees as young as 15 held captive by the Chilean government.
