Miners joined in on the agricultural strike and blockade of the Panamerican highway, taking several key points and reinforcing the numbers of the strikers. Hundreds of union members from the Doe Run metallurgical plant located in La Oroya blockaded the highway critical to the supply of food to the capital Lima, demanding the government turn over management of the mining complex.
