Around 150 protesters in Portland gathered for a direct action after the federal courthouse was once again opened back up. After several broken windows and a small fire, a massive security force poured out of the facility and launched chemical weapons against protesters, including the highly toxic HC gas.
Thousands of protesters returned to the streets of Tunisia during a 5th day of demonstrations against the classist & police state, demanding a radical redistribution of wealth from the rich and police to social programs. Significant clashes with the National Guard occurred in Tunis, more specifically the illegally built neighborhood of Ettadhamen, where the poverty rate is near 70% and the average monthly salary is $100.
Hundreds of Portland protesters marched to the Democratic Party of Oregon headquarters, smashing in windows and tagging graffiti before the crowd was brutally assaulted by police. Protesters then headed to Irving Park, where they saved a mother and child in a car accident before marching once again and returning without any confrontations with police occurring.
Dozens of protesters in Antofagasta took to the streets on the anniversary of the formation of the Carabineros, the national police organization of Chile. Demonstrators called for the agency’s immediate dissolution, burning barricades and clashing with Carabineros who arrived to suppress the protest.
