Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Athens for a demonstration in support of Black and refugee lives, demanding the government extend assistance towards migrants in Greece and allow them a better process for residency and ultimately citizenship.
About 150 protesters gathered in Chania in solidarity with the invaded Rosa Nera squat, chanting slogans in opposition to state repression during the pandemic, police brutality, and commercialization, as the Greek government seeks to make the squat into a public pool/spa. Demonstrators then marched to the Splantzia neighborhood before dispersing for the day.
Hundreds of protesters marched in Portland the day after the police murder of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, a black man in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center, demanding the immediate prosecution of Officer Katie Potter. Demonstrators clashed with police at the Multnomah County Sheriff’s office, but no arrests were made. Police bullrushed the crowd and shot tear gas, in response to which protesters launched fireworks.
