Dozens across Sudan protested for a 4th day in opposition to the government’s removal of petrol and fuel subsidies, whose new prices for consumers more than doubled. Demonstrators blocked roads across the country and lit barricades, pressuring the government to act on their demands.
Riots rocked the French city of Tourcoing following a police operation in which motorcycles and scooters used for urban derbies were rounded up and seized by law enforcement, resulting in participants and fans clashing with police, throwing fireworks in response to the use of tear gas.
Police in Athens brutally assaulted protesters gathering for a demonstration in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of 17N who entered a hunger strike to demand his transfer to the Korydallos prison for better medical care and visitors. Tear gas was deployed and arrests were made after only 15 minutes of the crowd beginning to assemble.
Hundreds of protesters in Thessaloniki marched in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of the 17 November urban guerilla in Greece. He entered a hunger strike on the 8th of January to demand his transfer to the Korydallos prison, where he would once again be able to see his family as visitors.
Around 120 protesters in New York City marched to demand the abolition of ICE on the anniversary of the agency’s murder of Erick Diaz-Cruz, who was unarmed and shot in the face through his hand. Demonstrators crossed the Brooklyn Bridge to the New York State Attorney General’s office, where condemnations of the murder were given by speakers.
