Over 500 protesters in Berlin gathered to demonstrate against fascism, capitalism, repression, curfew, and state management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Antifascist flags were raised, and banners were dropped across the city declaring the continuation of the anti-state struggle.
Over 100 protesters in Heraklion gathered in solidarity with the Koufontinas hunger strike to be returned to the Korydallos prison. Demonstrators were almost immediately attacked by police before regrouping and forcing law enforcement to retreat and disperse.
Protests continue to grow in Nigeria, whose SARS police force has yet to be disbanded and is being replaced with SWAT, and recent leaks by Anonymous are only serving to aggravate the situation in the country. The hacktivist group had previously not been present, but it is likely that its new releases will bring forth a new wave of protests.
Protesters in Athens gathered in solidarity with the November 17 political prisoner Dimitris Koufontina, who entered a hunger strike on January 8th demanding his transfer to a prison with less security and a greater assurance of his human rights. Police, who stated their presence was to “stop overcrowding” backed the demonstration into a wall and crowded them on their way to the Propylaea, where the protest later dispersed.
Thousands of protesters flooded the Iraqi city of Nasiriyah, meeting at Al-Haboubi Square the day after nationalist and Islamist militias known as Sadrists burned the square and killed 5 people. Iranian militias and Sadrists later attacked the protesters, killing several via what appeared to be grenade launchers and assault rifles.
