Chilean communists took to the streets in La Florida to protest for the resignation of President Sebastian Piñera and the release of political prisoners, gathering in the dozens. The demonstration was organized by the 2nd Cell of Mayo and La Florida, a local communist organization.
Dozens of Turkish anarchists gathered in Kadıköy to protest on the anniversary of the 19 December massacre, better known as Operation “Return to Life”. The protesters were attacked by Turkish police, with 10 arrests made. Prisoners were protesting the government plan to transfer prisoners to American-style “F-type” cells holding 1-3 occupants, in response to which 10,000 soldiers violently occupied 48 prisons to end 2 months of hunger strikes by hundreds of political prisoners. At least 31 prisoners were murdered by the Turkish government, 8 others were disappeared, and 426 prisoners were wounded. 1005 prisoners were then caged in the F-type cells.
Hundreds of protesters in Valls took to the streets to demand the release of left-wing Catalan rapper Pablo Hasel, who was arrested and faces charges for insulting the Spanish monarchy. Demonstrators placed burned barricades, facing off with police but with no arrests occurring in a rare turn of events.
Tens of thousands of protesters in Bogota took to the streets in opposition to neoliberalism and an increase in taxes on basic goods and services in Colombia. Police brutally assaulted demonstrators, shooting tear gas directly at the crowd and savagely beating peaceful protesters.
Dozens of protesters gathered and clashed with law enforcement at the Lo Prado police station in Santiago, following the murder of two men 2 days apart in Chile. Demonstrators surrounded the police station and burned barricades, demanding justice for Francisco Martinez and Camilo Miyaki.
