The University of Manchester Rent Strike, which has gone on for weeks in the United Kingdom, dropped banners condemning the university’s refusal for negotiation with the striking students. It demanded the police leave the campus and that the university suspend rent as well as putting students and staff before making profits.

Running battles continued in the northeastern French city of Tourcoing after a police operation resulted in the seizure of motorcycles used for urban derbies. Youths and police kept a constant exchange of fireworks and tear gas as engagements moved throughout the city, also resulting in several dumpsters catching fire.
A group of protesters gathered at the ancient theater in Larissa and hanged a banner in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of the revolutionary November 17 group who entered a hunger strike on the 8th of January to demand his transfer to the more humane Korydallos prison in Athens.
100 protesters gathered in Minneapolis for a New Year’s noise demo outside of prisons, following suit with dozens of other cities across the world. Confrontations with police occurred, with 21 people arrested and 12 booked at the protest.
