Workers in the Tolpán Wind Farm (Parque Eolico Tolpán), of the Acciona enterprise, near Concepción, went on strike for better working conditions and demanding more frequent paychecks. They set up barricades on the road, joining the general strike that began in the country.
Anarchists in Chile set barricades on the Maipo road in the Los Guindos neighborhood in the Santiago metropolitan region, in remembrance of Jorge Mora “Neko”, who was run over by a police car on the outskirts of the Monumental stadium during a football riot on January 28th. Demonstrators unfurled a banner demanding revenge for Neko & Ariel Moreno, who was shot and killed by police during a riot in Neko’s honor the day after his murder.
Protests in Namibia have been sparked due to government inaction against the murder of women across the country, with thousands of people taking to the streets against the lack of action by the state. Femicide has been skyrocketing in recent months, and critics say that nothing is being done to stop it.
Hundreds of protesters in Santiago gathered for a peaceful demonstration at the Alameda, and were attacked by Carabinero riot police with water cannons and pepper spray. Members of the press as well as street medic brigades were also assaulted by the Carabineros, with many as well hit by the water cannons tainted with chemicals that cause burns.
