Protesters Return to the Streets in Iraqi Kurdistan

Protests exploded in Kurdistan after 2 days of brutality leading to 8 deaths at the hands of police, with protesters gathering in cities that had not yet engaged in demonstration. Several highways were also blocked in solidarity with those clashing with police. At least 1 death occurred, as well as 25 arrests.

Protesters in Kalar continued demonstrations before police opened fire on them, amid reports that a man called Mohammed Sarkawt was murdered by police in Chamchamal, at the Takiya sub-district, captured on video [right].

Protesters in Shiladze were immediately attacked and arrested by riot police.

Other protests took place across the autonomous region, albeit far smaller and mainly based around blockading Kalar and Sulaimana.
