Around 70 protesters marched in New York following a decision made by the courts not to charge the police officers responsible for the murder of Daniel Prude, a black man who suffocated and died after law enforcement put a hood over his head during a mental health crisis in March 2020.
Protesters in Peru have been hit by shocking brutality from government forces, with helicopters filmed throwing tear gas from above. Tear gas and live bullets have been deployed all over the Lima district, with over 3 protesters registered dead. #PeruvianLivesMatter began trending on Twitter, accumulating more than 700,000 tweets. Many do not anticipate any positive developments happening in the protests.
Maharashtra farmers waving communist flags marched from Nasik to the megacity of Mumbai to protest against Narendra Modi’s new farm law and in solidarity with the farmers converging on Delhi a few days later. Demonstrators then arrived at the Azad Maidan for a mass rally against the law, before dispersing afterward.
Indigenous Colombians took to the streets to protest the inaction by the Duque administration to combat massacres of natives by government-funded paramilitaries. They also demonstrated against the false positives crisis that severely impacted disabled indigenous people. Natives and Afro-Indigenous Colombians were a swing vote in the election, and a failure on their part to vote for Duque could lead for him to lose reelection.
