Hundreds of Dutch football fans in The Hague rioted in celebration after the Netherlands national team won a match against Ukraine, setting fire to a dumpster in an intersection and blocking several roads.
Protesters demonstrated against pro-police billboards set up across the city by Portland Police Bureau affiliates, and destroyed a few. No major clashes with police occurred.
Members of the Squatted Community of Prosfygika protested in solidarity with Abdullah Öcalan, imprisoned leader of the insurgent Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Turkey. Demonstrators demanded the end of isolated imprisonment for the rebel leader, who has not been allowed to have visitors during an extended period of his sentence.
Hundreds of activists from the Ende Gelände environmentalist group continued protests against the clearing of the Dannenrod forest to create an unnecessary and useless highway. Police deployed a water cannon on the forest defenders in sub-zero temperatures, causing many to leave the area in fear of getting hypothermia. Police eventually retreated from the site.
Around 250 protesters in the Athens district of Piraeus took to the street against state repression and police brutality justified by the COVID pandemic, with law enforcement overfunded as hospitals and the healthcare system struggle to contain a rise in coronavirus cases.
