Dozens of workers at the Total Grandpuits refinery in France entered a 15th day of striking and attempting to halt access to the facility in protest against the company’s conversion plans, which trade unions estimate will lead to 700 layoffs.
Hundreds of protesters in Santiago returned to the streets to demand the resignation of right-wing president Sebastian Piñera and the release of all political prisoners of the social uprising that began in 2019. Demonstrators managed to occupy and burn one police vehicle, forcing out police from the area despite heavy repression continuing near Plaza Dignidad.
Anarchists in Thessaloniki gathered to protest in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of the 17 November revolutionary group who went on hunger strike starting on the 8th of January, demanding his transfer to the Korydallos prison in Athens which would allow him to see visitors and receive adequate medical treatment. A heavy police buildup arrived at the demonstration, detaining 7 participants without clause of arrest, later releasing them.
