Thousands of people in Myanmar went out on their balconies and the streets to bang pots and pans and blare their car horns in opposition to the military coup that had occurred just 1 day before against one of the first civilian leaders in the country’s history.
Protesters gathered in the dozens in Portland to demand justice for Tete Gulley, a black trans woman found hanging from a tree on 27 May 2019. Protesters listened to speeches before marching on 82nd Avenue, and then dispersing, with many prominent activists present in the demonstration including Demetria Hester.
Protesters continue to take to the streets in Puente Alto and Santiago against the press coverage of the protests. The Chilean media has been criticized for its review of the protests, which has been overly anti-protester; it also has not touched very much on the 48 dead during the uprising in October until today.
Despite heavy levels of militarized police at the Alameda and the University of Chile, thousands of protesters poured into the streets of Santiago demanding the resignation of Chilean President Sebastian Piñera. Clashes continued through the night, as the last protesters dispersed around 10:00 P.M.
