Members of the Philadelphia Chapter Sunrise Movement protested outside of President-elect Joe Biden’s de facto headquarters, demanding that he keep his pledges to protect the climate and enact sweeping pro-environmental legislation. Demonstrators then proceeded to march through downtown, and dispersed after that.
Dozens of demonstrators gathered at the scene of eviction of hundreds of families from 400 abandoned houses in El Sereno, a neighborhood of Los Angeles. Protesters were tear-gassed, and many were arrested alongside the evicted, which included many minors as well.
Around 30 Greek anarchists returned to the streets of Livadia in solidarity with the Koufontinas hunger strike, gathering at the town hall and marching through the city center while dropping leaflets and cards.
Hundreds of public sector workers in Iraqi Kurdistan went on strike after the government stated it would only give 1 more monthly paycheck with a 21% cut, following giving only 4 monthly salaries in 2020 with a 20% cut each.
Government forces deployed tear gas on the striking workers and protesters, as well as firing live ammunition into the crowd and injuring many journalists.
Hundreds of protesters gathered in the seaside town of Vilanova to demand freedom for Pablo Hasel, a left-wing Catalan rapper imprisoned for criticizing the Spanish monarchy. Demonstrators marched through the city, burning barricades and clashing with police after law enforcement arrived on the scene in riot gear.
