Protesters took to the streets in Vancouver, Washington, after the shooting of Kevin Peterson by police at least 5 times in the back for running away while unarmed. Within an hour of the news, 30 protesters had showed up to begin fighting with police; it would be 11 hours before Peterson Jr.’s body was taken away.
Dozens of protesters continued demonstrations in St. Paul after the nonfatal shooting of a black man by 4 police officers, stating that other methods of de-escalation should have been used. Demonstrators marched to the still-barricaded St. Paul Police Department headquarters, with speakers including Soren Stevenson who lost an eye after being shot with a rubber bullet by Minneapolis PD.
Hundreds of Panamanian workers continued to strike across the country to demand a $500 stimulus for all, full wages paid during quarantine, employment opportunities for the 7500 workers who have lost their jobs during the pandemic. Many also called for a moratorium on debt and rent, as well as the creation of interest-free loans.
Students gathered in Santiago to protest the transition test of Chilean Universities, which they say actively undermines many students in poverty. Barricades were first placed at the Alameda intersection with Los Héroes before protesters gathered at the Ministry of Education. Police responded with extreme force, attacking protesters and press, including the cameraman live on scene for CNN Chile.
Dozens of protesters gathered at the Justice Center in Portland for a Stop the Fascist Coup demonstration, burning the American flag and a “Police Lives Matter” flag taken in Salem during clashes on the same day. Demonstrators then roamed through downtown, smashing windows of a Starbucks, Target, and a credit union, with no arrests occurring.
