Over 1,500 protesters gathered in Portland on Martin Luther King Day, marching to the North Precinct and then the MLK Jr. statue in the center of the city. Demonstrators also organized a “die-in”, where protesters would lie down and occupy a major road, such as an intersection or other busy avenue.

Thousands of protesters returned to the streets of Tunisia during a 5th day of demonstrations against the classist & police state, demanding a radical redistribution of wealth from the rich and police to social programs. Significant clashes with the National Guard occurred in Tunis, more specifically the illegally built neighborhood of Ettadhamen, where the poverty rate is near 70% and the average monthly salary is $100.
Dozens of protesters gathered in front of the Jackson County Courthouse in Kansas City, shutting down its entrances in order to directly delay eviction hearings during the moratorium that will last until mid-February. Around 150 eviction hearings were delayed or cancelled for the day, in a massive victory for the KC Tenants’ Union.

Protesters returned to the Line 3 Tar Sands pipeline blockade in Minnesota after a protester was arrested for stopping construction for 5 hours. Demonstrators had gathered after a worker was killed in an accident 9 days before, and the pipeline even then resumed its normal affairs.
