Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Cali for a 6th day of demonstrations against the privatization of healthcare and police violence amid a general strike. Police attacked demonstrators at the La Luna sector of the city, using tear gas and later live rounds, resulting in fires and clashes across the city with law enforcement and paramilitaries.
Demonstrators gathered in Athens in front of the Elta Courier postage delivery office, demanding the reinstitution of the trade unionist Akis G. after being fired for attempting to unionize his workplace. Many criticize the company’s practice of hiring employees as contractors instead of providing them with the proper benefits that they would be entitled to under permanent employment.
Protests took place in Manisa after the closure of a mine in Soma; authorities refused to pay the Somali workers their salary after the closure of the mine, inciting a strike and subsequent protests in the area. A solidarity protest also took place in the Kadıköy region of Istanbul by anarchists.
The Los Angeles People’s City Council (LAPCC) took to the streets after the meeting between civilians and the police department, demanding the defunding of police, as well as the resignation of the current mayor of LA. At least 500 protesters attended the march that lasted for more than an hour.
