Protesters took to the streets in Seattle for Black Lives to demonstrate against police brutality in the city that has been criticized for being unaddressed, even through the minor defunding of the police by Mayor Jenny Durkan.
Thousands of protesters in Athens marched following police repression against students at the Thessaloniki Aristotle University, demanding the repeal of a law passed by the Ministry of Education allowing police to return to campus for the first time in decades. Greek students’ and teachers’ unions blockaded the entrance of the Athens Polytechnic University, demanding the end of the plan to reintroduce police to university campuses. Blockades are expected to continue into the following days, with neither the Students’ Associations of the Athens Polytechnic or the NTUA Employees’ Union appearing to be willing to let up.
