Dozens of indigenous Mapuche people gathered in the Interlagos sector highway in Panguipulli, Chile, for traditional land back, peacefully occupying the bridge until their demands were met, with a non-violent confrontation occurring with police.
Dozens of protesters in San Antonio took to the streets for a 2nd consecutive day as part of a port workers’ strike across Chile, demanding the government passage of a bill that would allow for individuals to withdraw 10% of their pension funds in a direct payment for a 3rd time during the COVID pandemic. Police attacked the port workers, leading to heavy clashes with barricades and a building being set on fire.
Thousands of protesters converged on al-Haboubi Square in Nasiriyah, to protest against the Iraqi government’s repression of anti-corruption activists and the implementation of a curfew in several cities. Riot police then opened fire on the protesters, and, bizarrely, the Iraqi military began exchanging gunfire with riot police, resulting in at least 1 death on each side.
