A coalition of health workers demonstrated against the Piñera administration in front of the National Mint in Santiago, as a part of the general strike emerging across the country. They demanded better working conditions and a higher government budget for medical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Protesters in the Swazi town of Mafutseni took to the streets against the monarchy of Eswatini and in support of the nation’s Communist Party, demanding democracy and socialism. Demonstrators decried the King’s refusal to acknowledge petitions submitted previously, as well as his dictatorial rule over the country.
Dozens of protesters in Antofagasta took to the streets in opposition to the right-wing presidency of Sebastián Piñera and the release of all political prisoners of the uprising in Chile. Demonstrators burned barricades and blocked roads, ready to confront any police officers who arrived to disperse the demonstrators.
Young Panamanians protested against President Laurentino Cortizo’s decision to exclude people less than 25 years old from the “solidarity voucher”, giving people $100 per month to alleviate the COVID-19 pandemic’s financial stress. Students blockaded several roads in response to the decision, including the Balboa and Cinco De Mayo avenues. Police responded by opening fire with rubber bullets and arresting several students, taking them to a police station, and later releasing them without torturing them in any form.
Around 100 protesters in Antofagasta marched to demand the release of all political prisoners of Chile’s social uprising and the end of femicides in the country. Demonstrators burned barricades and set up roadblocks, with police arriving shortly after and deploying water cannons on the small crowd.
