A coalition of health workers demonstrated against the Piñera administration in front of the National Mint in Santiago, as a part of the general strike emerging across the country. They demanded better working conditions and a higher government budget for medical services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over 100 protesters marched at the weekly protest for Patrick Kimmons, led by the mother of the victim of police brutality killed in 2018. Many bystanders honked their horns in support, as demonstrators moved through the city to the North Precinct before stopping for Letha Winston (Kimmons’ mother) to give speeches, including how to donate for the legal battle.
Hundreds gathered a few blocks away from the wake of Francisco Martínez, the Panguipulli street artist murdered by police, to protest against state brutality and repression. Carabineros responded with heavy usage of chemical weapons used on demonstrators and would go on to attack the wake itself, causing massive chaos in the area.
Hundreds of protesters in Miami gathered at the Torch of Friendship in solidarity with a national uprising in Colombia, against corruption, inequality, and police violence. Demonstrators called for the end of US arms sales to the Colombian military and the halting of support to the nation’s operations.
