French youth in Angers burnt cars and lit fires across the city for New Year’s, following the tradition of mass unrest every 1st of January in the country.
Dozens of protesters took to the streets of the Chilean town of Melipilla in condemnation of the police murder of a street artist in Panguipulli for the offense of failing to provide his ID on time. Demonstrators marched through the city and burned barricades on the commune’s entrance to disrupt activity in the area.
Hundreds of protesters in Pasto took to the streets as part of the 4th day of a general strike in Colombia in opposition to the Tributary Reform, which would increase taxes on basic goods and services, as well as against the privatization of healthcare and hospitals. Demonstrators took down the statue of Antonio Nariño in the city center and were then attacked by police who shot tear gas and later militarized the city.
