Dozens of protesters gathered at the Bergen County Jail on Christmas Day, in solidarity with ICE detainees at the prison in New Jersey. Demonstrators made noise to let the detainees know of their presence and were promptly threatened with arrest by police for standing too close to the perimeter.
Demonstrations in Kyrgyzstan began on the 5th of October after an election occurred that was said to have widespread ballot rigging and voter buyouts. Many people were outraged by this and began to take to the streets in Bishkek, the capital of the country. Thousands immediately gathered, and stormed the Parliament around 3:00 A.M. after being dispersed earlier by hundreds of military police.
Hundreds of Belgians in Brussels took to the streets after a 23-year-old black immigrant died in jail after being taken into custody by police during a home raid to enforce quarantine orders. A police station was set on fire, with intense clashes occurring between security forces and demonstrators who threw Molotov cocktails and rocks.
Around 150 protesters gathered at the American Embassy in Athens in solidarity with the Koufontinas hunger strike, demanding that the Greek government immediately satisfy the former 17 November member’s request to be returned to his old cell at the Korydallos prison.
