Thousands of protesters gathered in Madrid to demand the release of Pablo Hasel, the communist Catalan rapper arrested under charges of criticizing the monarchy. Demonstrators assembled in Puerto del Sol, where police attempted to kettle the crowd and assaulted several people. Hundreds of people then broke police lines, then also placing barricades and setting fires in the streets.
