Tens of thousands of protesters in Bogota took to the streets in opposition to neoliberalism and an increase in taxes on basic goods and services in Colombia. Police brutally assaulted demonstrators, shooting tear gas directly at the crowd and savagely beating peaceful protesters.
Hundreds of protesters in the Santiago district of Providencia gathered in opposition to SENAME, the Chilean national minors’ service, widely despised for abuses towards children left in their custody, as 1,313 people had died in their custody between 2005 and 2016. Police attacked the demonstration, deploying water cannons and tear gas.
Hundreds of protesters in Girona gathered to demand the release of Pablo Hasel, a left-wing Catalan rapper arrested for insulting the monarchy in his works. Youth clashed with police in many alleyways, throwing rocks and burning barricades after law enforcement arrived to disperse the demonstration.
Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets of Athens for a demonstration in support of Black and refugee lives, demanding the government extend assistance towards migrants in Greece and allow them a better process for residency and ultimately citizenship.
Over 100 protesters in Heraklion gathered in solidarity with the Koufontinas hunger strike to be returned to the Korydallos prison. Demonstrators were almost immediately attacked by police before regrouping and forcing law enforcement to retreat and disperse.
