Thousands of protesters marched on the Presidential Palace through the Alameda, clashing with police who used chemical water cannons which caused scars and burns on several hundred demonstrators. Several dozen protesters were also injured by police, with a few possibly suffering concussions from being slammed against a wall by a water cannon.

The reasons for the strike included a salary cut, an increased workload, and a loss of benefits.
