Symbiosis PDX, a communalist Portland-based group, held a rally in support of Rojava on the 8th, condemning Boeing’s sales and leases of their planes to Turkish-backed forces that have ravaged the area of Kurdistan, widely supported by leftists around the world.
Dozens of protesters gathered in Athens for a demonstration in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former 17N member who went on hunger strike starting the 8th of January to demand his transfer to the Korydallos prison in Athens. Police brutally attacked the protest, pepper-spraying participants point-blank, cornering and beating them.
Thousands of protesters returned to the streets for a 5th consecutive day of demonstrations demanding freedom for Pablo Hasel, a Catalan rapper imprisoned for criticizing the Spanish monarchy. Windows were smashed and barricades were burned before dozens of riot police brutally kettled and assaulted the crowd.
Dozens of protesters took to the streets of Antofagasta to demand the immediate release of all prisoners of the social uprising that began in 2019 as well as to demand the resignation of right-wing President Sebastian Piñera. Demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails and fireworks at police and burned barricades, shutting down areas of the city before later dispersing with no arrests made.
About 100 protesters took part in a 3-hour march on the 8th of October against police violence in the city and nearby St. Paul, where dozens of black men have been disproportionately killed by police. Many also believe that the police reports claiming that those killed were armed can be forged with no other active witnesses being there a lot of the time.
