Mapuche flags were raised, with the status of the indigenous people within Chile being a contending issue within the current political climate of the country.

Many ensuing clashes occurred, with chemically-tainted water cannons deployed against the demonstrators. Despite not arriving at the presidential palace, protesters remained undeterred and stayed beyond nightfall.
Dozens of protesters clashed with police in the Bonilla neighborhood of Antofagasta, demanding justice for a murdered street juggler in Panguipulli. Tear gas was deployed by Carabineros, Chilean law enforcement, which seeped into the homes of civilians. 3 protesters were arrested by the end of confrontations.
