About 50 abolitionists gathered at the minimum-security federal prison for men in Laval, Quebec, setting off fireworks, banging on pots and pans, and yelling chants in solidarity with those inside during the New Years’ noise demo. Prisoners at the jail have been kept in isolation from months, with limited to no access to the gym or library and no visits from family.
On the 4th of October, a small group of Patriot Prayer members held an anti-BLM rally in Portland. Counterprotestors quickly arrived, with confrontations but no major fights occurring until the slightly larger BLM counterprotest pushed the right-wing group out of the city. Patriot Prayer was heavily armed with assault weapons as well.
Hundreds of Chileans gathered in Antofagasta to demand the immediate release of all political prisoners of the 18th of October Uprising that began in 2019 in Chile and still holds strong after more than a year. Clashes with police escalated throughout the day and ended with flames on the cities of the streets of Antofagasta after Carabineros attempted to deploy chemically tainted water cannons on protesters.
Over 3000 protesters marched in Zaragoza to demand the release of Pablo Hasel, a left-wing Catalan rapper imprisoned for insulting the Spanish monarchy. Demonstrators chanted slogans against the Bourbon royal family and police repression, demanding a major overhaul in laws pertaining to freedom of expression.
