Hundreds of Kurds gathered in Şingalê after a Yazidi Resistance Units (YBS) fighter was killed and many others were captured in a clash with the military of Iraq. Army officials promised that the body of the murdered fighter, as well as those captured, would be released; the crowd stated that if they did not come through, all state institutions in the town would burn.
Clashes such as the one that occurred were not frequent in recent months, with the Iraqi army mostly focusing on suppressing demonstrations in Baghdad and other southern cities instead of focusing on Kurdish resistance groups.
