Hundreds of Indonesian Workers in Sulawesi Riot Against Chinese-Backed Mining Company

Over 800 workers from the Chinese-backed mining company PT VDNI at Sultra in the southwest Indonesian province of Sulawesi went on strike demanding a fair wage and better working conditions. A number of buses and heavy vehicles were all burnt down.

The PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry corporation both smelted and mined nickel, and other demands aside from a pay raise were a demand for 36+-month contracts.
