The reasons for the strike included a salary cut, an increased workload, and a loss of benefits. The strike has gained support among customers due to the transnational nature of the company, which is not approved of in the country.
Protesters in Mbabane took to the streets in opposition to the government of Eswatini, the last absolute monarchy of Africa, demanding the implementation of democracy and justice for Thabani Nkomonye, a student murdered by police. Demonstrators lit fires and blocked roads, shutting down key roads in order to cause as much disruption as possible.
Strong clashes occurred in the town of Cañete during a demonstration in support of Mapuche political prisoner Oscar Pilquiman, an indigenous activist framed for a robbery in 2019. Police attacked the crowd with water cannons and tear gas, while protesters returned the favor with Molotov cocktails.
