Dozens of port workers in Valparaiso took to the streets as part of a nationwide strike, demanding the government passage of the ability to withdraw 10% of a person’s pension fund in direct cash for a 3rd time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Demonstrators lit tires and blocked roads, before riot police arrived, using water cannons and tear gas to disperse the strikers.
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Tarragona to demand freedom for Pablo Hasel, a left-wing rapper from Catalonia arrested and facing charges for insulting the Bourbon royal family of Spain. Demonstrators clashed with police, who fired tear gas in response to the placing of barricades by youth.
Around 150 protesters in Larissa marched in solidarity with protesters in Thessaloniki following the brutal repression by police of the student occupation of the Aristotle University rector’s office. Demonstrators called for the repeal of the law passed 2 weeks before, which authorized police to enter university campuses for the first time since 1975.
