Hundreds of protesters gathered at sites across Popayán, in opposition to the privatization of healthcare as well as police violence amid a general strike. Police responded with extreme violence, using tear gas and flashbang grenades against peaceful demonstrations.
The 8th of October national strike was the final day of protest planned against the Job Creation Law, but it appears unlikely that the protests will stop anytime soon. The Parliamentary website has been hacked into by a division of Malay hacktivists, and the riots only intensified since the 7th.
Around 10,000 protesters in the Greek-controlled part of Nicosia took to the streets against corruption and nationalism preventing negotiations for unification of Cyprus, an island long divided between the ethnic Greek and Turkish ethnicities. Demonstrators demanded the resignation of the current nationalist president and the development of a plan to bring the north and south of the island together as one.
Dozens of protesters in the Santiago neighborhood of Puente Alto and the subdistrict of Bajos de Mena took to the streets on the Day of the Youth Combatant, placing and burning barricades and throwing Molotov cocktails at the 66th Police Station.
The city of Ancud in Chile barricaded most entry and exit roads as Chile entered its 4th week of quarantine, stating that the citizens of the town had a complete lack of basic resources to survive. Protesters state that quarantine would continue to be opposed until the town could be assured that enough supplies could come through to survive.
