Several branches of Anonymous launched a wave of attacks against several targets, including government websites. The 2 KKK websites, the National NASA Robotics government website, and the Modeling Guru website. The first and last stayed down for far longer, while the DDos on the 2nd one was halted for unknown reasons.
Hundreds of protesters in the Chilean city of Valparaiso marched and clashed with Carabineros, demanding the immediate resignation of President Sebastian Piñera and the release and amnesty of political prisoners. Demonstrators lit barricades on the Condel road, and then were pepper-sprayed by police and eventually dispersed. Burning tires were also set as a barricade on Highway 25 in the Santa Rosa neighborhood of the city, stopping traffic for hours until Carabinero riot police arrived on the scene.
Belgian youth in Brussels continued to ramp up occupation of several areas into New Year’s day, clashing with police and setting fires against state repression and brutality against people’s movements.
40 protesters gathered in Portland for a Black Lives Matter march after the decision made by the DOJ to acquit the murderer of Tamir Rice, moving from Director Park to SW Jefferson Street and then dispersing without any arrests made. Windows were broken, buildings were spray-painted, and paintballs were fired.
