Dozens of protesters took to the streets of the Chilean town of Melipilla in condemnation of the police murder of a street artist in Panguipulli for the offense of failing to provide his ID on time. Around 30 protesters gathered in Orlando in solidarity with Angelo Crooms and Sincere Pierce, two 16 and 18-year-olds shot to death by police last Friday. The family had organized a large rally on the 18th with a turnout of over 200, and expects to sustain these protests in order to provide pressure against the Brevard County Sheriffs’ Office.
Around 80 protesters marched in Xanthi in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of the 17 November left-wing urban guerilla who entered a hunger strike on the 8th of January to demand his return to the Korydallos prison in Athens, where he would once again be able to see his family and other visitors.
Protesters in Quito demonstrated against a deal between the government and the IMF, in which the Ecuador would earn a $6.5 billion credit, and to make sure it would be payed back, the sales tax would be increased from 12 to 15%. This sparked rioting in the capital, with police unable to suppress the tens of thousands who took to the streets.
