Demonstrators in Seattle dropped a banner in solidarity with executed prisoner Brandon Bernard, sentenced in 1999 to a death sentence for the murder of a white couple, with his sentence maintained despite evidence coming out showing that he had not in fact killed the couple.

Hundreds of protesters returned to the streets of Tripoli to demand an increase in living conditions in the northern Lebanese city which is primarily Sunni Muslim, and far poorer than most parts of the country. Anger had mounted over a protester killed by live ammunition the day before, with a demonstration taking place at his funeral and protesters later torching the municipality building.
75 demonstrators gathered for New Years’ Eve outside of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, as part of the nationwide noise demos called for by the Anarchist Black Cross. Prisoners inside showed their support by waving and turning the lights in their cells on and off.
