Hundreds of Chilean Feminists took to the streets in Concepción on the International Day Against Violence on Women, setting many fires and marching through the city in solidarity with those protesting in Santiago and Valparaiso on the same day, and also joining the Paro Nacional or general strike across Chile.
Anarchists in Exarchia, Athens, took to the streets demanding amnesty for the political prisoners arrested during the December 6 protests on the anniversary of the murder of 15-year-old Alexandros Grigoropoulos. They began a protest at his murder site and later marched out in the dozens demanding charges be dropped against the arrested the day before. Delta riot police responded by chasing the tail of the protest and arrested several.
Hundreds of Argentinians gathered in the city of Maipú in the province of Mendoza after the femicide of a 14-year-old girl. Demonstrators began to clash with police at the local seat of government, later setting it on fire and nearly burning it down with several explosions occurring within the town hall.
Thousands of protesters in Cali took to the streets for a 4th consecutive day as part of a general strike in Colombia, opposing new tax hikes on basic goods and services as well as the privatization of healthcare. Police responded with brutal repression, opening fire with live rounds and attacking peaceful demonstrations at multiple sites across the city.
Thousands of Chilean health workers and their allies took to the streets in Santiago, demanding the immediate resignation of President Piñera and his government as well as a bonus for hospitals and workers to help contain the coronavirus pandemic. Other unions also took part in the march, which was backed up later in the day by national blockades and bikers’ protests.
