Protesters in Portland gathered outside of the ICE facility in the city with shields in black bloc, which were later proven to be handy when police opened fire with pepper balls and rubber bullets. Few protesters were arrested, and the unshielded were injured by pepper balls.
Hundreds of protesters marched in Portland the day after the police murder of 20-year-old Daunte Wright, a black man in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center, demanding the immediate prosecution of Officer Katie Potter. Demonstrators clashed with police at the Multnomah County Sheriff’s office, but no arrests were made. Police bullrushed the crowd and shot tear gas, in response to which protesters launched fireworks.
Dozens of students gathered at the DEMRE (Department of Evaluation, Mediation, and Educational Registration) facility in the University of Chile in Santiago for the acceptance of demands made more than a decade ago by activists, which included an end to standardized tests and universal and free access to higher education. Carabineros then arrived on the scene, arresting several and causing injuries among the crowd.
