Demonstrators gathered for another day of protesting against Biden’s reported consideration of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti for Secretary of Transportation, with about 100 activists gathering in front of his house. Speeches were given out by BLM co-founders before police arrived and gave a dispersal order. Most people dispersed in time, but 2 arrests did occur after police moved in.
About 150 protesters gathered in Chania in solidarity with the invaded Rosa Nera squat, chanting slogans in opposition to state repression during the pandemic, police brutality, and commercialization, as the Greek government seeks to make the squat into a public pool/spa. Demonstrators then marched to the Splantzia neighborhood before dispersing for the day.
Around 600-700 protesters in Thessaloniki marched in solidarity with the Koufontinas hunger strike, marching from the Statue of Venizelos to the city’s beach, demanding the immediate government satisfaction of the former 17 November member’s request to be transferred back to his old cell in the Korydallos prison.
Around 60 protesters gathered in Heraklion in solidarity with Dimitris Koufontinas, a former member of the revolutionary communist 17N group who entered a hunger strike on the 8th of January to demand his transfer to the Korydallos prison in Athens where he would receive better medical care and access to visitors.
Anarchists in Athens threw Molotov cocktails at the town hall of Moschato in solidarity with the Koufontinas hunger strike, torching and severely damaging the registry office.
